Schmoozer wants suggestions for a place to bury the Yankees. I humbly submit the neutral ground of Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, the final resting place of many baseball greats, including Henry Chadwick, the so-named "father of baseball" It also serves as a perfect vantage for all the other boroughs and Long Island to have an equal vantage point.
08/20/2008 7:16PM
The Seasons Over
Now all the Yankee fans can go into full Met bash mode now that their sorry team of bums wont even be able to get out of 4th place when the Jays are done with them. HAHAHAHA!!!!
08/20/2008 3:24PM
Time to step down
Cashman needs to step down, now not after the season. The "Older" players he is relying on have run out of gas. Damon!!! I agree you should be a DH but the swing last night for a strike out would not even make the girls badmitten team
08/20/2008 4:18AM
JOHNNY DAMON!!!!
Way to go Johnny. That's the way to give a game away. The Blue Jays thank you, the Red Sox thank you, and the Tampa Bay Rays thank you. What a bum!!!
08/19/2008 6:28PM
Cashman Traded for a box of Used baseballs
Wanted: a box of used baseballs for a GM who not only demotes his starting centerfielder for three years, but decided not to trade him and his highly untouchable rookie pitchers who have not won one game this year. And also for not getting CC from the Indians.. NICE going Cashman.. Keep making these bonehead moves.. I might get one used baseball for you soon enough!
08/19/2008 1:13PM
Jeter is what baseball is all about
Derek Jeter represents what is good about baseball. He is all hustle. A-Rod...not so much.
08/18/2008 8:16AM
A-Rod still the best!
Shut up anti A-Rod fool!I am happy that A-Rod is a Yankee for another 10 years! As for the EL Capi-Tahn.He sux as a captain, makes too many commercials and is jealous of Alex!It shows and his performance shows it.
08/18/2008 12:35AM
catch the ball
pass ball catch ball. go team go. orange soda.
08/17/2008 9:53AM
A-what?
we can now look forward to 10 years of no-clutch performance A-rod.
08/17/2008 9:41AM
The Decline & Fall of The Yankee Empire.
It started with the signing of Jason Giambi & continued with the signing of many more superstars like (no clutch) A-Rod. Now the Yankees are stuck with him for 10 YEARS!!!!!
08/17/2008 6:36AM
WOW! Who would've thought...
The yankees could beat a crappy team with a second rate pitcher?? I guess stranger things have happened
08/16/2008 4:43PM
David East Haven
i think jeter to 2b and Cano to minors
08/16/2008 12:14PM
Yankees Done
I have been a Yankee for over 50 years and this team is dead. Mickey is probably rolling over in his grave.
08/16/2008 2:06AM
What a laugh!!!!
So for all the yankee fans that didn't want to trade Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy for Santana. How many wins does Phil and Ian have between them? Oh, yeah, ZERO!!!!!
08/16/2008 1:38AM
pr
where is torre,u replaced the wrong guy, girardi is a punk. he belong in single a managing the sioux falls.
08/15/2008 10:03PM
Trade Possibility
Just Browsing About and thought their may be pieces to puzzle being put together.
Justr a thought. With Melky being sent down and Ian Kennedy not putting up much so far. The Yankees may may a play for a trade with Toronto for Vernon Wells.
They quietly placed him on waivers and so far. No Claims were made. While he has a hefty price tag. It may the move Hank wants to make a statement and also fill CF for the next 2-3 years. Perhaps a package of Melky, Kennedy, another prospect will bait the Jays into letting Wells go and also free them of his contract.
I think they make a trade offer on Vernon. We'll see.............
08/15/2008 7:45PM
There's time folks!!
40 games left!! Plenty of time. Whenever you have a winner like Sir Derek Jeter there's a chance!! Lets wake up and give the support needed! This is absolutly no way to leave this palace that we call The House That Ruth Built!! Lets go Yanks!!!!!!
08/15/2008 6:56PM
To Hank
What Hank needs is a large, ice cold bottle of Shut up!!!
08/15/2008 4:23PM
yanks
the offensive death will be cured by getting both manny and vladi guerrero next year
08/15/2008 1:38PM
September 22
Just a friendly reminder from a huge Red Sox fan- when the Yankee players pack up for their last road trip they should take all their stuff with them. This way they won't have to waste a trip to an empty Stadium in October
08/15/2008 12:04PM
Sweeny you stank!
Go back to selling slush puppies at the local 7-11 you dune koon.
08/15/2008 10:34AM
Do The Right Thing!
Cashman should be fired! The Yankees no longer have the ability to broker deals. They were bidding against themselves for A-Rod...they could have had him for a $100 mil less if they had a competent negotiator in office! All the Yankees personnel decisions are based on Marketing...One last thing, A handful of fries and 4 chicken fingers should not cost $10! but of course...at Yankee Stadium they do!
08/15/2008 10:02AM
No confidence
When is Girardi going to provide some disciplin on this team. Cano needs his butt bench for his lack of hustle and sheer lack of interest. Maybe if Girardi showed show fire his team would start respecting him and get the message themselves. Team has not spirit at all this year.
08/15/2008 9:35AM
Suzyn W.
Any one know where I can see nude picks of Suzyn on the net?
08/15/2008 8:54AM
erosion
even the mona lisa is falling apart!
08/15/2008 2:07AM
Cashman should GO!!!
Besides the Nady trade, what other trade has the Yankees benefited from since he became GM? Ted Lilly for Jeff Weaver? Kevin Brown? Carl Pavano? Randy Johnson? signing Cano to a multiyear deal and then seeing him play BELOW average? Trading away Kartsens instead of giving him another chance in the Bronx? He couldn't have done worse than Kennedy! His success has been coming off of the coattails of what's left of the Yankee Dynasty in the 90s.
08/14/2008 10:53PM
Triple-decker again
Supersized ballpark. Who can afford to be a Yankee fan? And come home with a
heartburn? Get oudatown.
08/14/2008 2:45PM
Manny, CC, Texiera
We need to finally increase payroll and get the guys, along with Sheets and Fuentes. If we dont spend at least $250 Million next year this is a joke.
08/14/2008 1:56PM
Yanks Need Spark
The Yankees have no spark. Cano is always in a fog. Melky is a good center fielder but a poor hitter. The season is over. Melky and Cano rae trade bait for a good second baseman who can hit. Spring Training will be open season for center fielders who want to prove themselves. Absent of some major spark, this season is over!
08/14/2008 5:16AM
No confidence
Wait til next year!!
08/14/2008 5:11AM
No Run Support
I'm sick and tired of constantly watching this offense sputter. I don't want to here about how they miss Matsui and Posada. The still have Jeter, ARod, Abreu, Damon, Nady and Cano. This offense is capable of putting up big numbers. Two more things, if I hear one more shmuck talk about getting Bonds in here to save the season, I'll lose my lunch. Second, Hank, Please shut up!!!
08/14/2008 4:44AM
YANKEES SUCK!!!
Enough said!!!!!
08/14/2008 2:02AM
Fat Lady Has Sung
I hate to admit it, but the party's over. This team displays no heart, no fire, and couldn't hit the water if they fell out of a boat. If Ian Kennedy were pitching AGAINST the Yankees, he'd have 15 wins already.
08/13/2008 10:06PM
Randolph is available
Could we please get Willie in the dugout ASAP. He knows how to motivate Yankee veteran players and please bring back Larry Bowa. He was the insiration Mr. Cano needed last year and it's obvious that Girardi can't get this team going. There is no response to his lack luster coaching.
08/13/2008 8:07PM
giambalco
i know we didn't get our monies worth from jason contract but is it to much to ask for 21 million this year to check your glove to make sure the webbing is not broken.
08/13/2008 6:31PM
We Love Torre
just imagine this. what if Torre stayed for one more year and this season unfolded like it did. Everyone would want his head. but now because its Girardi Hank lets him down easily by his stupid comment about the team players are not supermen. Bull with 42 games to go he is given his team a soft landing and telling them it is okay to lose. Bull Fire Girardi like you would have done to Torre. I love Torre and miss him. bring him back now
08/13/2008 6:24PM
Where I Torre
Send Girardi to the mets and bring back Torre
08/13/2008 6:23PM
I miss Torre
If Torre stayed the would have never given him the golden parachute like they are giving Giradi.
08/13/2008 4:46PM
Other Teams Salary
We need to spend a little more - other teams are catching up. Payroll just to $250 mill. We'll be fine then
08/13/2008 4:23PM
ARod
Why is this guy on the team? Without a doubt, dollar for dollar, the BIGGEST waste of money in professional sports. Mantle on one leg and wracked with pain had more heart and talent in his pinky than this clown.
08/13/2008 3:37PM
Well Put
I agree with the writer of Yanks Make Playoffs. What stone is it written on that they ahve to make the playoffs every single year. I know it is disappointing but enough with all these high expectations already. the yankees are what they are right now. deal with it and stop crying. They have had lots of success over the years.
08/13/2008 1:15PM
NEVER SAY-ITS OVER
You call yourselfs yankees fans.A real fan knows better. Its not over till its over!
08/13/2008 10:38AM
Clean House
The problem is no chemistry on this team. Some are even slacking, like Cano and Betemit. That dribbler between them was a disgrace they both should go!! No life, no hustle. Yes we have more key injuries then ever before but with men on 3rd and less than 2 outs nobody can get a flipping fly ball, give me a break. Girardi has done a decent job despite it all and you Torre fans he would have blown up the bullpen before the all-star break. No one in the bullpen is in the top 15 in innings pitched. Give Girardi credit for that!
08/12/2008 6:51PM
simply put
Im disgusted
08/12/2008 3:17PM
New Manger
BRING BACK TORRE TO OPEN NEW STADIUM!!
08/12/2008 3:00PM
Leaders need to start Leading
Hate to say this but these problems go deep into the locker room. The Yankees DO NOT have a true leader on this team. The Tinos, Pauls, Bernies are long gone.
08/12/2008 1:15PM
manager
randolph enough said
08/12/2008 1:10PM
I'm glad that we have.....
The Giants to look forward to, the Rangers and the Knicks should be interesting as well. So, it won't hurt so bad this Fall when the Yanks are not in the playoffs. Call it the rebuilding era that is aout to begin with the Yanks.
08/12/2008 1:03PM
DONE WITH!!
I HATE TO ADMIT, YANKEES ARE DONE!
08/12/2008 12:35PM
Yankees are Dead
GIRARDI NEEDS TO MOVE ON, How much longer must we hear him say that resting players for the season run! that idea is long gone they had their chance to rest and besides they finally have 2 off days coming in the next 7 days rest then! And if one more time brings Rivera in in the 9th with a tie score he must immediatly be shown the door. It hasn't worked all year how much more time does Girardi need to awake to the fact that it just doesn't work. Check out Riveras record even in the past when this was tried. Does Girardi live under a rock? He cannot be the manager next year PLEASE PLEASE move on without him
08/12/2008 12:08PM
It Shouldn't End Like This
I agree with everything Sweeney wrote. It will be VERY SAD if the Yanks don't make the playoffs THIS year. Why? The reason THIS season is so important is that it's the FINAL season of our beloved Yankees Stadium; and what better way to go out than witha playoff run or even a World Series title. The only positive thing about the Yanks not making the post season is that I will be going to sleep earlier than usual. I'd rather stay up and watch the Yanks in October.
08/12/2008 10:33AM
Spring training...
was when the visible problems with this team were evident. Poor starting pitching, a tired, wait for the 3-run HR offense and shoddy defense. Don't be surprised if this team is near the AL East cellar Sept. 30.
08/12/2008 10:31AM
Face reality
If Yankee fans concede to that the Yankees are done, then if we are wrong it will be great! Right? No not really.I would rather them go home early and save themselves the embarassment of being chewed up and spit out by the Angels should they face them in the post season. The Yankees do not have what it takes to go further than the first round. This isnt footbal where any given Sunday a mediocre team can beat a great team. The only consistency with the Yankees is their inability to score big runs.
08/12/2008 10:24AM
It's over
This is the year the streak finally ends. There is nothing that leads you to believe that all of a sudden they will turn it on and steamroll into the playoffs. Unfortunately, it looks like they will stumble their way through the final 40 games and end the season out of the playoffs. it's time to overhaul this team starting with Cashman. The time has come to move on. The past is the past, we need to rebuild. What a sad way to open the new stadium.
08/12/2008 9:08AM
The Yankees and the Playoffs
I enjoy your work on WFAN very much. What I do not understand is this fanatical seeming insanity regarding the Yankees making the playoffs. So if they do not make the playoffs, will the sky fall? Is anyone going to lose an eye, or a limb? Brian Cashman would have his pick of any GM job in the majors if he was not retained by the Yankees. The Yankees have not had the pitching to compete in the playoffs in a long time. The streak is nice, yes, but ask the Atlanta Braves what it all means at the end of the day. The Yankees are like a traveling circus, they are built for the regular season, not the playoffs, when pitching and defense win. Your own blog, in which you cite the pitching the Yankees are relying upon, says it all. And injuries are part of the game, that does not tell the full story. Too many Yankee fans on WFAN call in to complain about the injuries, but that does not wash here.
Keep up the good work.
08/12/2008 8:53AM
scary
I'm afraid Sweeney may be right. The thought of October w/o the Yanks is depressing.
08/12/2008 5:39AM
Put the fork in the Ynkees
They'e done.
08/12/2008 5:13AM
not this year
Sweeny is dead on!
this version of the Yankees will not make the postseason
08/12/2008 1:08AM
manager
the yankess must fire the manager
08/12/2008 1:07AM
yankees
it is clear the manager has to be fired asap he does not know how to motivate his team he is the worse manager in yankee history and besides these players today only care about a paycheck
08/12/2008 1:05AM
Yankees suck!!!
What goes around comes around. It's time for the yankees to stink up the joint just like every other team does. But at $220 million dollars, it sure stinks worse!!!
08/11/2008 10:55PM
DonGorgon
Girardi should be ashamed of himself. All year his lineup decisions have been questionable, yet tonight takes the cake. Benching Damon and Giambi in game 1 of this important series? There is no time for his lame creativity. Get the right guys in the lineup and stick with them. How can you expect to win with Melky and Christian in the lineup, hitting next to eachother, with Cristian leading off? Sink or swim with the big boys, stop the naive reliance on players who flat stink.
08/11/2008 10:30PM
Nady
"YOURE MY NAAAAAAAAADY"
by styx
08/11/2008 7:34PM
Not This Year
We get NOTHING out of our top pitching prospects, A-Rod hits .230 with RISP because he's so clutch, Jeter is a GIDP machine. Not our year. Sign Nady long-term and let's hope for the best next year.
08/11/2008 7:08PM
CASHMAN HAS to GO!
This is nuts.. we keep hearing how Hughes and Kennedy are the future!!??./. Kennedy is a spineless wimp who cant get out of his own way.. I am tired of losing to the Angels.. Damm.. what does it take?.. Get on move them over and drive them in. Tell me Angels have such a great pitching staff?.. BS..Time for Cashman to tell all Yankee fans he is sorry for banking the future on Kennedy and not getting Santana..
08/11/2008 5:32PM
It Ain't Over Yet - the Fat Lady DID NOT Sing!!!
The calvary is Coming - Phil Hughes & Carl Pavano - and Chin Ming Wang in October!!! Go YANKS!!!
08/11/2008 5:28PM
The Fat Lady Hasn't Sung Yet!
I agree that Good Pitching and Clutch Hitting has been lacking - but have No Fear Carl Pavano will be Here ... and Phil Hughes!!!
08/11/2008 4:58PM
Clutch is overrated
Good pitching makes all your hitting look "clutch"...
08/11/2008 4:00PM
hate to say it
the yankees have to get a pitcher like Garcia and i hate to say it but they have to bring in Barry Bonds. Bonds would give us that clutch hit when need be. I am starting to hate this team not preforming. if they don't bring in Bonds then say good-bye tothe post season.
08/11/2008 3:40PM
Xavier Nady
I just have a question for whomever wants to answer it: When Nady was traded to the Yankees in July, he was hitting .336. Since joining the Yankees he is his average is .373. Does he qualify for a batting title? If not is he being penalized for not having enough at bats in the AL? If he is - it sucks!!
08/11/2008 3:38PM
Wholesale changes needed.
Send Jeter away Melky, Giambi and Abreu too! Let Geise pitch more sit Andy down he's done.
08/11/2008 3:34PM
What are we doin'?
Betemit at first in the 9th inning??
Can't get three runners home with less than two outs??? Jack up the caps and slide a new team under them.
08/11/2008 3:31PM
Big Shake-up due
Yanks should send Jeter to Joe Torre and give the yanks new on field leadership. Giambi goner maybe Damon too. We need some new blood on this team that know how to win.
08/11/2008 3:30PM
Too bad
we're not in the National League Least division
08/11/2008 2:37PM
On the money
Sweeney is right. They are in big trouble. They have to sweep MIN just to get some breathing room here. This would put them in sole possession of 2nd place in Wild Card....then its just keeping pace and hoping the yanks can pick up game on the Sox. I will say....I think TB is goin to hold and win the East now. On the other hand, do I have confidence that if the yanks make the playoffs that they can actually beat LAA at home in 5-game series.
08/11/2008 2:25PM
Yankee fan and baby
the difference is the baby will finally stop crying...lol lol, the varsity? 240 mil payroll, where is jeter, a bomb, cano, waaa waaa, take a pitch, waaa waaa, cashman stinks, waaaa, waaaa, its mariano's fault, waaaa, waaaa, I love it, coundnt happen to a better group of fans.... lol waaaa waaa, our seasons done, waaaaa, waaaa, where is joba, waaaaaaa, waaaaaaa,
08/11/2008 12:40PM
Playoff Fantasy
What difference does it make if the Yanks make the playoffs or not? We'll lose in the first round just as we always do. No one is touching the Angels. It's their year...obviously.
08/11/2008 12:20PM
it's over
You need pitching and clutch hitting. They lack both
08/11/2008 11:32AM
waaa waaaa
its everybodies fault now,lol waaa waaa waaa, the varsity is going down, waaa waaaa waaaa
08/11/2008 11:27AM
Inconsistent
After the all star they win 8 games straight and than lose 10 out of 15 what is with them?? get some sacrifice flies!!
08/11/2008 10:22AM
Time is Ticking
My Confidence in the Yankees is still strong but they have to have a terrific week, 5 out of 6 or they're in big trouble. They stand 4 games out of the Wildcard and they shouldn't even think about the division right now. Just play better gain a couple of games and beat those teams in front of you head to head.
08/11/2008 10:12AM
The curse
I am a big fan but they will not make the playoffs-its called "The curse of Joe". You treat people poorly-it always come back to bite you.
08/10/2008 8:19PM
cashman
can somebody tell me how you can have a 220 million dollar payroll with 10 players on the 25 man roster making under 2 million? I hope the yankees do not resign Brian Cashman.
08/10/2008 7:24PM
Yanks
Are we making the playoffs this year?!
08/10/2008 7:23PM
Yanks
Are the Yanks making the playoffs this year?? Sure doesn't look like it the way they played the last 10-12 games
08/06/2008 1:18PM
Girardi
I can't tell you how many mornings I've woken up to say "That was the worst managed game I've ever seen"! C'mon Pinch hitting Melky Cabrera!!! He should be in Scranton....
08/06/2008 5:42AM
Pathetic
"Matt Harrison (3-2) lasted 6 1/3 innings and gave up just two runs on five
hits. Eddie Guardado worked around a leadoff walk to Derek Jeter in the ninth
to secure his third save of the season." Two runs, off a pitcher with an era of nearly EIGHT!!! Are the Yankees actually going to bring their bats to tonight's game or are they going to leave them in the club house for the rest of the season? An era of nearly eight means the REST OF THE LEAGUE scores nearly eight runs per game off of Matt Harris, if the REST OF THE LEAGUE can do that, what the hell is wrong with ou guys??? WAKE UP!!!
08/05/2008 9:53PM
Matt Harris????
Are you kidding me??? I love when a rookie with an era of almost 8 shuts down some of the best hitters in baseball (at least they are on paper) PATHETIC!!!!
08/05/2008 9:12PM
Here we go again...
A ROOKIE pitcher with an ERA of almost EIGHT and the Yankees can't buy a hit!!!
08/05/2008 3:52PM
RE Overrated
DOnt belong on the same feid are you drunk they split, everyone say they won because of error by the angels duh if the yanks made the errors youd say they suck, so retarded
08/04/2008 4:52AM
your crazy
all the yankees did was improve the team b4 the deadline which seems to be everyones goal but the red sox. buy a pennant? If thats the way you feel then become commissioner and eliminate trades
08/03/2008 3:55PM
giardi sucks
how come when giardi was in the booth he had all these great ideas to bunt and hit and run? now he sits on his hands and watches the game...terrible move to take Geiss out when he was CRUISING! Terrible move to not take Rameriz out when he walked the 9batter and kept him in against Texiera...great move!!!
08/01/2008 9:47PM
Overrated
These Yanks don't even belong on the same field as the Angels
08/01/2008 1:23PM
Sox are done
Theo has worked the media to create a negative environment for Manny. Scott boras has influence manny to say stupid things to force the hand of John Henry. Loser: boston red sox
08/01/2008 1:06PM
manny
does yankee fans that are happy manny is no longer in boston let me tell you at least we got a player in bay thats going to play not sit out jajajaja
08/01/2008 10:28AM
typical yankees
there they go again trying to "buy" a pennant by trading for anything and everything at the deadline....and of course they are more happy about what boston did then they are about improving their own team
08/01/2008 1:06AM
Flipping Stocks = Yanks Management
The Yanks management made another mistake, they have no patience; they act like someone who is addicted to flipping stocks. When are they going to learn that pitching and defense wins? They start a catcher who had no sleep and no chemistry with Andy Pettitte. I am about done with the Yanks.
07/31/2008 5:21PM
Bye, Bye , Manny
I don'r care who the "Bay" guy is..he's no manny. A big day for the Yankees!!
07/31/2008 12:53PM
Farnsworth
GOODbye Farnsworth-LESS!!!
07/31/2008 9:18AM
Rich
I think it's a great trade for both teams, the tigers get a power arm in the pen and the Yankees get a future Hall of Fame cather down the stretch. Both players don't demand a long term commitment which may also be a positive.
07/31/2008 12:03AM
Oddly Sad to See Kyle Go
I didn't think I would feel badly, but he was a fighter and took alot of heat from the boo birds. I used to be nervous when Kyle pitched in the past, but he's gotten so much better, and I think alot of that had to do with Girardi's confidence in him. He obviously cares, and teared up, and so I am sad. As far as Pudge is concerned, I never liked his attitude much even though he was a great catcher. If he doesn't prepare with the pitchers, that better change as a Yankee or else fireworks! We'll see what happens. I'm sure Posada is thinking about next year with Pudge here. Baseball is a heartless business!
07/30/2008 11:04PM
Good trade if the year were 1998
Why would Cash trade pitching away when we finally got all our pieces to the bullpen puzzle together? Farns was just getting comfy in the Bronz and now our right handed 95mph baller is sent packing for the over-the-hill post-HGH Pudge? I'm sorry, but posada has spoiled Cash with his offensive production from the C position. We're going up against tough pitching in the next 60 days, many games will go into the 7th and 8th with a 1 run differential and we're going to give the ball to who?
07/30/2008 10:01PM
Xmas Comes Early
My God, the Tiger GM musta been drunk.
I can't believe we got rid of Farnsworthless!
Just in time too! He had he good 10 game run, not he can't blow meaningful games for the Yankees down the stretch!!!
Good riddence! You bum.
07/30/2008 9:37PM
nother roid
another yankee roid baby to replace roger roid
07/30/2008 8:49PM
Pudge acquisition
A no-brainer to be sure. The Yanks have several capable relievers who can handle the 7th and 8th innings with a few others soon to be back from rehab. Pudge not only allows Molina to return to his place as a capable back up, but he offers the Yanks an immediate offensive up grade while maintaining a strong defense behind the plate. All that remains is another starter for the rotation. Go Yanks.
07/30/2008 7:13PM
Weak Deal
A sketchy trade. Posada goes down so they have to go out & get another creaky 37 year old catcher. Typical Yankees, always getting a player just past-sale date and maybe starting to turn. Pudge was great in the postseason in '96 with Texas and especially '03 with the Marlins, but he absolutely stunk the other 3 times, especially with the Tigers in '06. Farnsworth was smoking of late and they better hope those other guys in the pen hold up. I would have preferred to keep the flamethrower Farnsworth, and stay with the platoon of Molina and Mueller behind the plate. Molina's arm makes up considerably for his weak bat.
07/30/2008 6:40PM
Cashman is brilliant.. for now
Cashman brings in Nady, Marte and Pudge and we lost next to nobody? Brilliant. Moves. Plus we have no long-term contracts to worry about This moves works for the short-term and long-term... As for people defending Farnsworth. Please!!!! Stop the insanity. We all wanted him gone a few months ago. Yes, he's had a good year, but did any true Yankees fan trust him in a big spot coming down the stretch? The pen will be fine. We do have to worry about replacing Raz and Sir Sidney, who are both pretty lame starters. I'm hoping we get Washburn and then Kennedy comes back to the fold.
07/30/2008 6:26PM
Pudge
I think the yankees made a great trade.
07/30/2008 6:20PM
What??????????????
Getting a catcher was about 3rd on the trade peiority list. Our bullpen was the envy of every team in baseball - why mess with it? Molina has been doing fine and we added offense when we picked up Nady. Shouldn't we have been focusing on another starter? how long can we count on Ponson and Rasner?
07/30/2008 5:58PM
More help coming
Pudge provides excellent defense and hitting, we need that! Now is Washburn coming for Igawa...or Kennedy from AAA Rasner and Ponson will not get us to the playoffs.
07/30/2008 5:13PM
are you kidding again
Philadelphia is a beautiful city?? The next time the phils win anything Nixon will be president again.........Cashman has done a perfect job, the minors are loaded with hard throwers, the Mets would die to have the prospects the Yankees have
07/30/2008 5:11PM
Ridiculous
This is ridiculous... The Yankees stick with Farnsworth when he was terrible and finally when the man puts a stretch together he is traded... We have lost 2 of our best relievers this year in Joba and Farns and all along relief pitching was a problem... And do you really think that irod is going to help that much? he is long off the steroids that gave him his mvp type seasons...
07/30/2008 4:58PM
Albert Pujols
just rename the team the Bronx Pigs....why not get Pujols & Manny too, gotta have an All Star at every position!
07/30/2008 4:01PM
Time to Go !!!
I forgot about Kei Igawa
07/30/2008 3:32PM
stay
Hes one of the Best GM's in the business
07/30/2008 3:31PM
Nobody Understands
Many fans fail to realize that Brian Cashman, in my opinion, has had one of the toughest jobs in baseball. To be the gm under the steinbrenner's is a very difficult job and Cashman has kept the yankees contending and in the mix every year hes been here. There wasnt a fan in all of new york that didnt want pavano and thats just the ways some deals work out, sometimes they just dont work. Cashman has done a more than respectable job with this club and should remain the yankees gm.
07/30/2008 2:53PM
Time to Go !!!
That should be Vasquez
07/30/2008 2:26PM
Time to Go!!!!!!
Cashman has also given us Sidney Ponson who has been with 4 teams in 2 years. He is also looking at Victor Zambrano who was finisged 2 years ago .
07/30/2008 2:12PM
Time to Go !!!!!!!!
Cashman has been a disaster with the pitching staff . For ex : Pavano , Lopez , Contreras , Clemens last year , not trading for Santana and convincing management to keep 2 pitchers that are not even on the team now . he has given us Darrell Rasner who isaaa pitcher . Philadelphia is wonderful city .
07/30/2008 1:43PM
No way
Cashman hasn't made a mistake since pavadno. He has a stellar lineup while preserving the yankees future. This guy in the last year has shown that he will and should be the GM for atleast another Decade.
07/30/2008 12:15PM
are you kidding?
Cashman has done a spectacular job. The average fan around here has absolutely no knowledge about what it takes to build a team. Cash is going nowhere. Who the hell would go to Seattle for anything.
I would stick with the youth we have and keep pushing, the Yanks are far from mediocre, they have a stack of young talent..
07/30/2008 11:50AM
RE Someone help me understand...
Dude....It's the Yanks that are mediocre.
07/30/2008 11:17AM
someone help me understand
it is easy, the mediocre pitchers don't get "up" for yankees, the yankees don't get up to crush bad teams like they did in 1998. they let bad teams "think" they can play with them
07/30/2008 11:07AM
Richard Gonzalez
While cashman has made his share of questionable moves during his tenure, esp in the pitching dept. I maintain he's a well respected GM and has the teams best interest in mind. His penchant for not trading away young talent lately is really agreeing with me.
07/30/2008 10:53AM
Cashman going... NOWHERE
First of all to answer the previous poster's question-- it never fails in baseball, after a winning streak, comes a letdown. It's frustrating to everyone, but it happens so often. I only hope they get over it before the Angels come in, because the Angels can blow them out of the water. The only saving grace is that the Sox & Rays aren't doing much either. As for Cashman, the Steinbrenner kids will never let him go. Only if Cashman decides he's had enough of NYC (I don't think so) or if he thinks he doesn't have their support will he go. But it'll be Cashman's decision in the end. On balance, I think Cashman has done a great job. And yes, even with all the resources that this ballclub has, you can still screw it up.
07/30/2008 5:50AM
Someone help me understand...
how the Yanks can sweep Oakland, sweep Minnesotta, take 2 of 3 from the sux but lose 2 in a row to Baltimore??? I'm getting so tired of mediocre pitchers who get up for playing the Yankees then go right back to their mediocre ways against everyone else in the league
07/28/2008 1:21PM
2008 Word Champs
We are going to beat the Atlanta Braves in the World Series. A rematch of the 90's World Series when I bacame a Yankees fan. I went to my first baseball game ever when I was 38 and I fell in love with the Bronx bomers! I think the Braves will pull outhat terrible division and are still the class of the NL with Texeria, the future Yankee!!!! They will beat the Brewers in the NLCS and another 2009 Yankee, C. C, Sabathia! Lets Go Yanks. World Championship!
07/27/2008 5:44PM
2009
I know the Yankees have a decent chance at this year, but I can't help but think about the very important and busy offseason ahead. I'm not fooling myself about Jason Giambi, he has to go. And as much as I might be second guessing myself, I would like to see Mussina for one more year. I think he has re-invented himself as a decent pitcher. It may be hard to believe, but Mike Mussina has a better ERA then Josh Beckett as of this point
07/27/2008 4:36PM
Re: first pitch
I have to disagree that the first pitch is usually the best pitch. I agree it can be a quality strike, but if a team wants to get the opposing pitcher's pitch count up they'll never do it by swinging at the first pitch. Too many times this season have I heard "one pitch, one out" from Sterling, many times in key situations with runners in scoring position. Not swinging at the first pitch also allows your teammates to see more pitches before they come to bat.
07/27/2008 10:31AM
Veteran Pitching
Moose and Andy were suppose to give us 10 wins each, however they are both on the way to a 20 game year. Way to go guys, we need you next year too.
07/26/2008 4:34PM
Mr.Ramirez
The Yankees are so much better when they acquire an ex-Met to pick up the slack.
07/26/2008 10:41AM
joba baby
way to go joba crush those red sox
07/26/2008 10:30AM
first pitch
the first pitch is usually the best pitch, the pitcher wants that 0-1 count. why not swing at it?
07/25/2008 9:56PM
The best ever
Kyle makes what could have been a game losing mistake...que Mo. Two batters, two outs, he isn't known as the best ever for nothing!
07/25/2008 9:48PM
Kyle
Let your defense field the ball!!!!
07/25/2008 9:43PM
Why?
Why not let Joba start the 8th inning? I know Joe wants to stay consistent with the bullpen rotation, but Joba was doing a great job and had plenty left in the tank. Hopefully Farnsworth can make it through unscathed...
07/25/2008 9:35PM
Is there any reason...
why Alex can't hit an average at best pitcher like Manny Delcarmen???
07/24/2008 7:50AM
Way to go MOOOOSE!!
13 and 6 from a pitcher most people said was done. Keep going Moose, each win is one closer to 300.
07/23/2008 1:49PM
Patience at the plate???
Bottom of the third: Molina, 2 pitches-OUT Damon, 2 pitches-OUT Christian, 4 pitches. Why is it that the rookie takes more pitches than the veterans?? The veteran hitters need to have better patience at the plate against an average pitcher with almost a 4 era!!
07/23/2008 1:34PM
Melky
can you PLEASE STOP SWINGING AT THE FIRST PITCH!!!!???????
07/23/2008 12:53PM
Let's go MOOSE!
Make your record 13 and 6 today and keep the train rolling!
07/23/2008 11:40AM
re: bonds
well put! :)
before the run across the street please have them strip Bonds of the pinstripes! :)
07/22/2008 10:33PM
Way to go!
Tonight makes 5 in a row gentleman! Keep it going!!!
07/22/2008 7:58AM
Let's keep rolling
So far so good for the start of the second half! Keep rolling guys, make this last half for the cathedral the best it has ever seen!
07/19/2008 10:47PM
Mantle 40-40
Also Mantle was not hung up on numbers. When he was asked about the 40-40 club he quiped "If I knew it was going to be such a big deal I would have done it a couple of times"
07/18/2008 10:44PM
sexon pride
this the kind of player i love! low as can be pride wise with ability and something to prove next stop chicon
07/17/2008 12:31PM
Re:BONDS
Signing Bonds would have only one positive effect....The first time he goes into Monument Park wearing pinstripes all the monuments will grow legs and run across the street to the new park.
07/16/2008 2:07PM
To be fair to Uggla....
To be fair to Uggla, the thir derror wasn't really is fault. That was a really nasty hop.
07/16/2008 1:42PM
Barry Bonds
Rumor is Barry Bonds will be a Yankee by week's end. Due to the absence of Matsui
07/15/2008 4:37PM
A-Rod vs Mantle - We'll miss you Bobby
Anyone who can ask who's better - A-rod or Mantle never saw Mickey play. I leave you with one of many examples of Mantle over A-Rod - 18 World Series Home Runs inclluding Hr's against Sandy Koufax, Warren Spanh and Bob Gibson versus A-Rod's playoff record against no name pitchers, Enough said.
As for Bobby Murcer, He was a truly great person and a player who always gave us everything he had. So long Bobby you will be missed.
Long time Yankee fan.
07/15/2008 4:07PM
No Yanks in the Derby???
How is it possible that A-Rod would bow out of the HR Derby in NY? What kind of an MVP is he to do that to NY's fans? How can NY host the derby and not have a single Yankee show up? I must say that I was seriously disapointed.
07/14/2008 5:05PM
Bobby Murcer
I was 12 or 13, living in Lincolndale, NY when at the Baldwin Mall for the opening of a new diner was Bobby Murcer, Art Shamsky & Elston Howard. I remember sneaking in with a family so I could see Bobby...Once inside I was so exicted I told him I loved him and he was kind enough to kiss me on my cheek. I swore I would never wash my face again...RIP Bobby you will be missed...Lorraine Bronx, NY
07/14/2008 3:58PM
you should watch more mets games than yankees
here come the crying yankees ? thats a good one whoever you are. i haven't seen a yankee players throw his glove on the ground stick his thumb in his mouth and stomp his foot because he knows he's overated. hmmmm sound familiar
07/14/2008 3:52PM
give me a break will ya !
the mets win a few games and they run to all the yankee blogs and pronounce a new sheriff in townOL. win something first will ya ! yo guys are as pathetic as reyes tantrums . lol
07/14/2008 12:52PM
here comes the yankee crying!
I love it! the minute they run into a tough stretch they start with the tears, and its cashman fault, the best is yet to come!!!!lolloloooollolooo
07/13/2008 4:02PM
Pathetic
Two losses in a row to Toronto...pathetic. I don't care if it WAS Halliday and Burnette pitching, it could have been Charlie Brown pitching and it wouldn't have mattered. I have been a Yankee fan for 33 years and have never seen a more pathetic team than what is currently on the field. The effort sucks. The New York Yankees need to start playing like the New York Yankees. Spring Training is over gentleman and in case you haven't looked, so is half the season!
07/13/2008 10:11AM
bobby murcer
it would be fitting if the yankees named the memorial park at the new yankee stadium "bobby murcer memorial park"
07/12/2008 9:30AM
Mattingly/Puckett
My best guess as to why Puckett is in over Donnie is that Puckett was still an impact player when he was forced out whereas Donnie was a "Hanger on" at the end of his career. Donnie was hoping that his back would recover (did not) and the last few years hurt him. I think there are very valid reasons for him to be in or out of the hall. Maybe as the next mngr of the Yankees he will get in as a player/manager which if he wins two WS would be most appropriate
07/11/2008 3:19PM
RE: Mattingly vs. Puckett
Because Puckett lead his teams to two world series championships and Donnie was a loser!!! Keith Hernandez should be in the hall (same stats and two championships).
07/10/2008 11:47AM
Mattingly vs. Puckett
Why is Donnie Baseball not in Cooperstown? His numbers are as good as Kirby's (RIP) for the same amount of time. Both were cut short due to injuries.
07/08/2008 1:08PM
BEST WORLD SERIES EVER?
I was watching a list show of bet world series ever and for all the ones the Yankees were in the best one ever involved Yankee's fans worst images: Mets and Red Soxs. I agree that it was the best World Series ever. #2 was the Yanks and D- Backs. I agree that that was the second best ever as well. Too bad 26 championships can't equal the excitement of 1. Quality not quantity!
07/08/2008 12:59AM
A-Rod vs Mantle
Don't insult Mantle with the question.
07/07/2008 2:48PM
Abreu Stinks!!!
Please, please, please... Someone needs to inform Girardi that Abreu needs to get bounced from the three spot and maybe even traded. The Yankees are not going anywhere this year with him in right field. He is sooooo unclutch, and how can we have a 3 hitter batting 270. He has an enormous amount of protection and is still an automatic out!!! I dont understand what people see in this guy
07/06/2008 6:33PM
Joba-overlooked factor
Sweeny,
I think there is a variable that nobody gave proper weight as Joba becomes a starter. While working the 8th so many days/week, his location was impeccable. Now that he pitches every 5 days, it's just not there. Thank goodness they made the move(Wang) but it is something to watch as he goes forward.
07/05/2008 11:17AM
Dare I say it....
Seems to me like Jeter has officially hit the downside of his career. I can't remember seeing so many mistakes made by him. Not a good sign.
07/04/2008 10:19AM
trade??
would you trade Duncan for Heilman(mets reliever) to help bullpen?
07/03/2008 9:27AM
A-Rod vs Mantle
Who was better?
07/03/2008 7:45AM
18-7?????
Texas Rangers=highest team era in baseball Yankees= EIGHTEEN runs!! YES!! That's what you're capable of gentleman! Way to go!!!
07/02/2008 7:05AM
3-2?????
Texas Rangers=HIGHEST TEAM ERA IN BASEBALL, Yankees= THREE runs TOTAL in two games??? Are you kidding me??? Time to pull your heads out of your behinds gentleman and start hitting the ball when you're at the plate!
07/01/2008 4:25PM
it is all about the hitting
Pitching has been spotty at times,,,HOWEVER the hitting has been a distinct problem. As Yogi would say it is getting late early
07/01/2008 9:25AM
The Secret 'Gardner'
Brett is the real deal-u can tell!
07/01/2008 7:35AM
2-1?????
Texas Rangers=highest team era in baseball
Yankees= ONE RUN??? Will you guys PLEASE stop making mediocre pitchers look like Cy Young winners???
06/30/2008 9:49PM
lets calm down
mets fans really know how to make themselves look foolish... stop comparing your team with the yankees and your lives will be less miserable. no matter what the mets do in the present or future they will never have the history of success that the yankees have. stop the camparisons, because there is none.
06/30/2008 1:58PM
Reyes a few ring short.
A couple of years ago they were comparing this guy to Jeter. That's funny he is a few rings short and look at him now acting like a baby on the field. Also, let Wright win a few MVP's before you compare him to A-Rod.
06/30/2008 12:49PM
NOT A SPLIT
Does anyone remember the METS took two games at Yankee stadium? Mets swept the Yankes at Yankee stadium and took 4 out of 6 in the series.
06/30/2008 8:50AM
Yankees
The Yankees will enjoy playing golf in Oct while the Reds are playing baseball. If we all think the Met roster is over rated, what do we call the Yankee roster-has to be the most over-hyper, over-rated, over-payed under achievers in the history of the game. How many more -low and inside, low and outside -will A-Clod wiff at. What a stiff.
06/30/2008 8:39AM
You have to take a split !!
Considering that the Mets started their two best starters and the Yanks had Gise, Rasner and Ponson you have to be happy to get a split. Oliver Perez seems to own the Yanks. So given the starters the Mets threw out, I will take a split any time
06/29/2008 8:42PM
well, if you say so...
The Mets have a lineup full of substitute players, so i would say the negatives of both teams were pretty much even. Church being back, makes a world of diff now. remember when the yankees didnt have Posada and Arod?
06/28/2008 11:12AM
Sir Ponson
Don't be blinded by the glistening Sidney Ponson. He STINKS and will be sent packing after his first bad start. I heard a Mets fan calling up the FAN pretending to be a Yankees fan saying that the Yankees should lock Ponson up to a "long-term" contract. That was funny. Pedro is finished. He has 3-3.5 months of baseball left.
06/27/2008 7:35PM
Packing a suitcase
the Yankees should trade Ian Kennedy, Sidney Ponson, and Andrew Brackman for C.C. Sabathia
06/27/2008 7:13PM
Lord What is Happening
The Yankees do not need to get better players they need to get better pitchers. Pure and simple Mr. Cashman you need to go out and get us some pitchers.
06/27/2008 5:06PM
FIRE CASHMAN
Seriously, how is this guy so bullet proof? He is TERRIBLE.
06/27/2008 5:03PM
Cashman
When are the Yankees going to realize that the 96-2000 championship teams were built by Stick and Watson and that Cashman has been a terrible GM? His trades are awful, he signs big name over the hill players to huge contracts, his drafts are a bust, he can't evaluate pitching at all, and his teams have zero chemistry. Cashman is a complete fraud and he needs to go.
06/27/2008 1:35PM
2 long days ahead
The Yankees are going to have two tough days ahead of them, so fatigue may be a big factor. But the Mets aren't playing so hot, so it's anybody's guess. Giese pitched well his last start, but The Bombers really do need another starter, because they won't make the playoffs with Giese, Rasner and Ponson in the rotation. But with the A.S. Break coming around the corner, the Yanks are still in a good position. Let's hope Tampa gets out of the way soon.
06/26/2008 8:20AM
Re: Sad
I can't stand the red sox either. They're the biggest paper tigers in baseball and their fans are nothing but band wagon jumpers.
06/25/2008 5:07PM
Wistful
I remember those 70's years. While watching the 71 World Series my Dad jumped clean off the couch when Pitt won. He then got in the car and sped to his social club. I am not sure my Mother knew what happened. I just told her, "it was those Pirates again" and nothing else needed to be said. Those memories of great Pirate teams are lost on the kids today.
06/25/2008 7:05AM
12 to 5
A 12 to 5 loss to the team whose pitching staff has the highest ERA in baseball???
06/24/2008 11:37PM
lets go
yanks
06/23/2008 9:34PM
Sad
That was a great article. I grew up in Pittsburgh during the 70's and lived through all of the great baseball and football teams of that era.
Now I live in NH (Metro Boston). I guess the Championship "luck" followed me...but don't worry, I can't stand the Red Sox.
It is sad what the current ownership of the Pirates has done to that once proud franchise. They will be losers as long as the baseball welfare system (luxury tax) is in place. That lowlife Nutting gets money for owning the team. He is too much of a jerk to re-invest it in players. The Pirates are a perfect example of how welfare destroys pride.
BG
06/20/2008 12:46PM
Willie
It was a total disgrace in the way the Mets handled the way they let Willie go.Willie if youare reading this you are a classy guy and would love to have you back with the Yankees.
06/19/2008 9:03AM
farnsworth
Why is it that every time Farnsworth comes in, it seems like the first batter tees off on him. Last night I saw a youngster hit his first major league home run on the first pitch, which was mid 90's. Kyle, stop starting off with the heat. Batters are just sitting on it.
06/18/2008 7:10AM
Melky
Melky is one of the best defensive center fielders in the league right now, are you crazy?
